Diamonds – “How Fancy” “Once in a blue moon” “Oh So Rare” 

Fancy color diamonds are diamonds that exhibit color beyond the Z range, or diamonds that exhibit any other color face-up. These rare varieties come in every color of the spectrum, including blue, green, pink, red, yellow and brown.

Among the most highly valued gemstones due to their beauty and rarity, fancy color diamonds have enchanted people for centuries; many featured in the crown jewels of nations from Iran to Thailand, France, and the United Kingdom. Today fancy color diamonds are no longer exclusive to royalty, anyone can own these beautiful gemstones.

Their value generally increases with the strength and purity of the color. Large, “vivid” fancy color diamonds are extremely rare and very valuable.

• In pink diamond specifically, the color is caused by a distortion in the diamond's crystal lattice, created by intense heat and great pressure from all directions (non-isotropic stress) after the stone's formation in the earth.– (arrow to the pink diamond photo) 
• The blue color comes from boron trapped in the crystal's structure – (place next to the diamond photo)
• Nitrogen trace elements give a diamond its yellow color as they modify light and absorb the blue part of the visible spectrum. –  (next to yellow diamond ring)
